Have you ever woken up one day and realized the dream you’ve spent years chasing doesn’t quite feel like yours anymore? That was me. And that moment — disorienting, yes — became the turning point that launched me into deeper alignment with who I really am and how I want to show up in the world.
I recently had the pleasure of joining Vishali Nigam on My First Step Ever, a podcast that celebrates disruptors and dreamers navigating the winding, often unpredictable path to purpose. The conversation took me back — to my childhood, to early career pivots, and to the quiet moments of doubt that shaped my loudest breakthroughs.
Let’s unpack what we talked about.
When Your Dream Changes

This episode revolved around a universal and often unspoken truth — that it’s okay for your dream to evolve. In fact, it should. We’re taught to stick to one path, one title, one destination. But what happens when that destination no longer fits who you’ve become?
That’s not failure. That’s growth.
For me, storytelling has always been the throughline — from filmmaking to brand strategy to coaching. But the form it’s taken has shifted, because I’ve shifted. This episode is for anyone who feels the tension between who they were and who they’re becoming — and is brave enough to keep walking.
Here are a few standout moments and lessons from the conversation that might just meet you where you are:
- Don’t be afraid to outgrow your dream: I left a filmmaking career I worked hard to build because it no longer felt aligned. It’s okay to start again.
- Your “how” doesn’t matter as much as your “why”: I didn’t go to film school. I didn’t have marketing experience. What I did have was a relentless desire to learn, and that was enough to create my own path.
- Say yes, even if you don’t know how… yet: Early in my agency journey, I took on projects I’d never done before. I figured it out. Confidence often comes after you take the leap.
- Authenticity is your edge: You don’t need to sound like everyone else in the room. In fact, please don’t. What makes you different is what makes you powerful.
- Purpose + Passion + Clarity = Magic: If you can align all three, you unlock more than just a business strategy. You unlock a life that actually feels good to live.
A Deeper Dive: Betting on Myself (Again and Again)
When I moved to LA, I didn’t know anyone. No job. No apartment. Just this gut feeling that I needed to be there. That same gut led me to turn down projects in the entertainment world that looked good on paper but didn’t feel right. Walking away was terrifying — and freeing.
I pivoted into brand storytelling and digital strategy with zero formal training. But I said yes. I learned fast. I listened harder. And I realized that the same creative energy I once poured into film could be redirected toward helping brands, founders, and creators tell stories that move people — and move the needle.
It’s not always graceful. It’s rarely linear. But it’s mine. And that’s what matters.
Redefine Success On Your Terms
If there’s one thing I hope listeners walk away with, it’s this: Your path doesn’t need to make sense to anyone but you. Give yourself permission to evolve. Let go of the dream if it no longer fits. Make space for the one that does.
Because with a strong enough why, you can overcome any how.
